Topic: Ahrenreth Rings

I'm gonna detail what's happening in my current campaign and questions in a spoiler box.

Andraax is missing, and the quest is to find him (rescue him?).
The players went to his tomb, and found out that there used to be this thing called the Ahrenreth. They were told that members of the circle each had a ring. I added that any member could use his/her own ring to activate an ages old Duskwalker protocol that would search for another member using "satellites".
They are now trying to locate one of those rings. Voriig Kye told them he has one to share (he has Schrek's Daenku ring from the Jerak Ahrenreth, taken after he was defeated in the previous campaign).

Now, I am not sure about how to proceed.
Schrek's ring will be cursed, and bypassing that curse will be the focus of the next session.
But once they get it, I am not sure if Schrek's ring is not too much of an "imitation" to activate something meant for the original Ahrenreth.
Also, would one of those ring work for anyone wearing them, or should there be a ritual to name the owner?
I would love for the characters to be able to craft their own rings, much like Ondoval did for the Jerak Ahrenreth. But how do you go about crafting them? Did A'Kesh craft the second set of rings? Are they the original rings? Did Ondoval have a machine that can "print" personalized Ahrenreth rings?

Right now my best idea is that bypassing the curse will not allow them to wear the ring, but will give them detail on its construction (there is a lvl 10 seer in the party with some lvl 15-20 RMFRP spells). Then I was planning on teaming them up with Tethior and have him help with the crafting (there's a lvl 10 alchemist in the party with some lvl 15 RMU Adept spells).

This is what I was thinking, also. How about this?:

The ring they are getting from Voriig Kye (I am assuming he required a service of them in order to do so - or he is getting rid of it because of the curse, someone is after it, or something like that, perhaps a combination) will not do what they want it to do. Sure, they can go the Tethoior route, but he will be unable to replicate the function, because he cannot replicate K'ta'viir technology. (No big deal sending them down a blind alley once in a while, not every plan or idea pans out.) But, what it does do is let them see what one looks like (as the ones made for the Jerak Ahrenreth were less capable copies, but visually the same). And, wouldn't you know it? Someone they know has one that looks just like that. Unfortunately, this person is not a friend and getting it from them will be an adventure in itself. Perhaps this person could connect to one, or more, of the PCs backstories.
