Title: Skill: Meditation sleep RoCoII
Post by: Malim on May 18, 2016, 02:27:00 PM
So if my char has 110 in this skill and rolls 90 total of 200.. does he then need no sleep at all :D

Well according to the skill write up in RoCoII you are correct assumng you had not applied any difficulty factor to the mediation roll to account for the surroundings that the person is attempting to meditate in.

They would still need to spend time meditating. I would suggest that on a total roll of 200 then their mediation would be twice as effective as natural sleep so 4hrs meditation would be the same as 8hrs sleep.

Anyone attempting to meditate on consecutive days would incur penalties with the attempt going up one difficulty level each day.

We've played that the character spends the time meditating and is immediately refreshed. So maybe 5 minutes. This is in RMSS but I think the rule for the skill is similar. We haven't played with any difficulty modifiers (though it's not something that gets used in combat or anything crazy like that) or penalties for consecutive days. My character ends up resting for an average of 3-4 hours a night, but sometimes it's 5 minutes and sometimes it's 16 hours (in which case the other players wake him up early and he's groggy all day), depending on how the dice feel. A net benefit but a little unpredictable.

RMSS decreases the amount of sleep based on percentage.  We do impose a minimum of 1 hour regardless of roll.  We have not thought about consecutive nights of meditation(sleep trance) or what penalty would apply.
I thought RMC if you made your roll, broke 100, then it cut the time needed fro sleep in half.  I could be wrong it has been awhile.
Most of our players use it so they do not have the neg penalty from waking from sleep and always want to sleep in armor.  Does anyone apply a penalty to meditating in armor?
