Intimidate skill? Cant find it.
« on: September 08, 2007, 07:17:59 AM »
So my question begins with big search in School of Hard Knocks and RMC Character Law. Results:No Intimidate skill. Did i miss something? Acting skill maybe? I have Interrogation under Influence in RMSS, it have close meaning, but not too close.

I dont think there ever has been one directly named Intimidate. It isnt listed in Companion II either so you have to find a way around it. Duping or Acting would be my guess

I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place. But, that's more the fault of poor genetics and poorer parenting than it is the fault of a videogame

I think 'duping' is the best for that.

That or "bribing":
"I'll make you an offer you cannot refuse"
"What?"
"You'll let me pass this gate without a word and I promise that I won't hurt you..."
 ;D
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

But what about when you really are threatening?  What if you ain't fibbin'? ;)
A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

I agree for the "not hurt you" dialogue it is more duping as the guard does not really get what you are saying so quickly.

On the other hand, intimidate does not really have to be in the books, does it, make it up yourself. OR use seduction for it as it is basically one of the ways to influence someone emotionally - although I see that the skill name does not really fit for the cause here.

There is a skill called "Intimidation" in the "Arms Companion" Page 74.

Uh, and as you are looking into the Arms Companion from RMII (if you've got it as you were talking about RMFRP, right?) have a look at "Presence Projection" - cool skill if your stats are high enough (and there are ways to achieve that ... see the Munchkin thread  ;))

I would use leadership, the fall back skill for getting people to do what you want them to do.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Also a good idea. I think that is sometimes a real problem when you've played too much Rolemaster and read too many companions ... you don't remember the simple skills, there are so many additional ones in all those books ... so many cool ones ...

Hmm... Leadership, not bad. Better than dupping. Thanks.

We have always used the interrogate skill bonus. In both situations you are trying to forcibly influence someone.

Interrogate is a good choice.

The special "truth finding" of the Spanish Inquisition consisted of two steps.
The first one was called terror verbalis. In this one the delinquent was intimidated
with words; often the torture instruments was also shown. This should loose her
tongue without any torture.
The second step was the use of those instruments.

Leadership is another good choice.

The GM has to make a decision: She chooses herself or let the (N)PC choose.

But that choice has a consequent:
If the PC chooses Interrogate, this means she threatens with torture.
If the PC chooses Leadership, she threatens with his military rank or influence
on the boss of the target.

In any case the target will remember !

Do you really think you get a new friend with:
"I cut off your nose!" or "I kill your family !"   ?
