Jury Summons!
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:37:37 PM »
So, they say the average person (in the US) gets two jury summons in their life.

Just received my eighth!

I think it's bordering on harassment.  I'm really tempted to show up in camouflage and say some really inappropriate things when they ask if I have any prejudice or biases so they'll just dismiss me outright.

I have only been summoned once, you must have gotten my other - and then some.

My last was Grand Jury. I did 4 weeks and then got a 6 year credit out of it.  1 year left.

Kind of funky the way the statistics behind jury duty works out sometimes.

I've only had to go for jury selection once (almost 20 years ago), but ended up being picked for two different cases (and the really funny part about it was that 4 of the people who were selected were selected for both of the cases that I had to sit on the jury for).  Luckily both cases were scheduled the same day and were pretty cut and dried, so didn't take too long.

Awe damn, just realized I probably should not have said anything as with my luck now I'm liable to get one in the next month or two.

Just walk in and say "Burn them all!  Muahahaha!" and they will probably escort you out and not bother you again...  maybe...

I've never had jury duty, neither has my wife, brothers, or a few co-workers, and we're all 40+.   That 'No Sense' spell must work for jury selection as well...

I've only had it twice so I still see it as a civic duty. I might feel differently if I had it 8 times.

Thought there was a few years reprieve between summons; maybe not.

Yes when I was in CA I had to send in a doctors note saying how bad my back was, and that seemed to just put me back into the jury pool. Here in OR I have been called twice in the 6 years I have lived here and if things go like clock work I should get another summons soon.

It's actually a fairly interesting thing to do (Jury Duty), I enjoy it when I do, but I often have obligations that get in the way or make it very inconvenient.  Fortunately my current job allows me to do it without issues (I still get paid, etc, etc).

I think one of the most interesting things was the way different people on the jury went about the process.  Some were focused on the actual letter of the law, while others were more concerned with the spirit of the law, or it's perceived intent.  Fortunately most laws don't leave a lot of room for personal perception even when you are someone who see's it as a 'spirit of the law' issue.

I, too, wouldn't mind actually doing it.
