Adrenal Strength
« on: November 18, 2010, 02:47:44 PM »
So, it's a skill to summon adrenaline in order to do amazing feats with your strength.  My question is as a GM, I'd like to know some situations where players can apply this skill.  Feel free to make a list-

My take:

  • moving the boulder out of your way.
  • lifting a portcullis
  • moving a downed tree off an injured person.

Any more I missed?

In combat I allow a player to use it also. And IMHO any time you need a good burst of St it is good to use, not good to fail though.
I also think that there are some other good uses of the skill described in the SoHK.

Throwing your companions, their gear or big bags of loot.
Breaking down doors or breaking any object (tables, chairs, etc.).

Using it in an attack.  You're in a bad situation, you know you're going to die if you don't do something extraordinary, you need to make your next lone attack count.

Adrenals are something that can be especially useful to a character who has a speed/haste effect going.  You have 200% action, so you make two 90% attacks and use Adrenal Strength for 20% (non MA Comp rule).

I am used to rm2 but I think it is the same with RMFRP. Adrenal strength and speed are prepared the round before they are used so using speed or haste spells should do nothing for you on that account. I would say use adrenal strength or speed on initial strikes of combat or shift between aggressive and defencive rounds by parrying at -20 in every other round as you prepare adrenal strength/speed for the next.

HR
I allow Adrenals to be prepped in the same round they are used OR prepped this round for the next.
So far, this hasn't come back to bite me yet. Do you want a fantastic but limited (%Act) maneuver this round or spend time this round to get a fantastic maneuver next round.
My stipulation is that there can't be anything in between.
You have to go from Prep to GO! You can't Adren Prep, then cast an instant or tie your shoe, then make you Adren move.
