Title: Rest for power point regain.
Post by: Malim on March 21, 2023, 12:13:49 PM
Section 6.1 of spell law states that 8 hours sleep or meditation is need to regain spend power points.
What if a spell users only get 5 hours sleep?

There's no RAW about the matter AFAIK, so it's up to the GM. For instance, in my case, a character needs a number of X hours of sleep (X depending of several factors) in order to regain all his PPs. If he sleeps less than X hours, he regains zero points.
So, IMO, in your case of five hours out of eight needed, for a character with a maximum of 24 PPs who spent 8 PPs, a GM may choose:
* grants zero power points (= it's all or nothing),
* grants 5/8 of the spent power points, therefore 5 PPs (= one always needs to sleeps eight hours to recover all spent PPs),
* grants 5/8 of the maximum power points, therefore 15 PPs (= the less PPs spent, the less sleep needed).

For comparison, RMU breaks it down into 2 hour blocks. In RMSS, it's 3 hour blocks. So neither requires a full uninterrupted 8 hours, but you still can't really get anywhere with a bunch of 10 minute naps either.

It is also quite easy to break the RMU numbers down further into 1-hour blocks (just half the values). So on my character sheet, for example, under maximum hit points and power points, I also list the number recovered per hour.

Cool. Thanks.

Hurin.. I play rm2 😊
But the rmu regain rules can be used.
But the rmss is actually the best, since they don't punish low lvls.

Fair enough, but I would note that RMSS does actually punish low level casters more than RMU does, insofar as RMSS imposes casting penalties for casting spells equal too and below your own level up to a point, at least if you cast them without prep. RMU removes those penalties/prep rounds for spells equal to or below your own level.

Casting?
This was just about regaining PP :)
As i recall RMSS PP regain is calculated from realm stat + lvl or something.
RM2 is just 8 hours sleep 100%
RMU is 10%/2hr sleep
