Resuming concentration on Telekinesis
« on: October 30, 2024, 01:33:51 PM »
The telekinesis spells note that if the caster stops concentrating before the duration is up, the object stays in place as if a "staying" spell was in effect. What it doesn't say is whether the caster can stop concentrating, do something, and then resume concentration for a period up to the duration (measured from when the spell was initially cast, I would argue.)
Has anyone considered this, and if so did you allow it or not allow it? I can see both arguments, wondering what kind of trouble it could raise.

I always ruled that if the mentalist stops concentrating on his telekinesis, then physics takes over.  The object falls to the ground or surface it was raised by.

In RMU and RMSS, the duration is "1 min/lvl (C)" which means the spell doesn't actually end until the 1 min/lvl duration is over, but you can only make use of it while concentrating. So, you can stop concentrating and then get back to it later, as long as that 1 min/lvl is not over.

Thanks! Your answer made me realize that I hadn't checked the notation list at the beginning - the answer is also in RMC and RM2 Spell Law.
