I finally figured out why my file wasn't working. It was mistake in file naming.
I have it all set up on my new (used) Windows tablet, and everything is running swell now. If a bit slow, because the tablet is an antique. That's okay, because I only need it for this one.

The location of the game is nowhere near my desktop. As such my desktop is left off on game days because I don't use it. (So leaving a port open for traffic outside the home is not practical either.)

Thank you, though...now time to get a couple of characters updated properly.

Healers get Mind Disease Cures which certainly ought to be applicable (on the Cleansing list, 10th level).

In RMU, brain damage is generally treated as a nerve injury. Otherwise, same story as RMSS.

I see the spell, page 52, and there's a Mind Disease Cures True.  Thanks Jdale.

"Target will trust no one absolutely. When in a life threatening/dangerous situation, there is a 50% chance (modified by Self Discipline bonus x 3) that he will not put his safety in the hands of others."

I wonder if a character like Glarthir from the BethSoft game "Oblivion" would be the result of this spell.  Glarthir was paranoid in the extreme.  He believed several people in his city were plotting against him.  If a Sorcerer (or evil Mentalist) cast this spell on a certain person, would a character like Glarthir would be the result?

Is there a spell list that helps with mental illness?

Just in case you're not considering it, the server can be started on any PC running Windows, Mac or Linux, and while it's available, all devices in the same network (or outside if you open a port in your router) can access all modules.
So even if the desktop computer is not "nearby", as long as it's connected to the WiFi available to your tablet or phone, you can use it.

I copied the sample race.xml, tweaked it to fit one of races...and it won't read it. It sees it, but the race won't show up in the list. The prevailing wisdom is to just use a common human and buy the talents. Disappointing, but I can work with it.
The sample XMLs intend to be clear enough to allow adding more content manually if you want.
There's a tutorial video that might help as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vzp9qDTB_Ik
Also, if you just want to adjust some small things, you can use the variant race feature, there's an example in every ruleset.
And finally, you can always send the file over via mail to the support account era-support.voriigkye@recursor.net, or join the conversation at the era-for-rolemaster channel at the ICE Discord server

First, thanks for the response.
Second, in the time since I wrote that. I got it set up here at home and working. I spent the last week trying to convince it to work on Android (via emulators for windows and linux distros). After tearing my hair out running in circles over it...I did the character building the old fashioned way, and then entered the info and printed nice neat copies.

None of us have a laptop to carry. And we don't play where my desktop is. that's why I was trying to convince my android tablet it was windows or linux. I'm sure there is a way and I'd eventually figure it out, but I'm getting to old to futz around too much these days with behind the scenes tinkering.

In the end, I have nice sheet for the group to play on (and corrected mistakes along the way). And I found a good deal on a used windows based tablet...so I'll try setting it up on that.

As far as feature requests...can we get a better way to add material to the system? I copied the sample race.xml, tweaked it to fit one of races...and it won't read it. It sees it, but the race won't show up in the list. The prevailing wisdom is to just use a common human and buy the talents. Disappointing, but I can work with it.

Quote from: Tolen on June 24, 2025, 11:30:29 AMIf I want to use ERA, but the game location only allows us to have our phones available (possibly a tablet), would that work? I only need to allow my players access to their sheets for the most part anyway.

Sorry for the delay in answering, it seems at some point an update in the forum software removed my mail notifications on the thread.

You can use ERA with increasing levels of support:
  • The first thing would be to gather around a laptop or desktop computer, and create the characters. A screen of at least 10'' is required. Afterwards, the same module can be used to level up the characters. You can print the character sheets, and disregard the rest of the features if you are playing in person.
  • You can have the server in some laptop or desktop computer running, add the characters to an adventure, and the players can use their smartphones to check their character skills, stats, inventory, spells, etc.
  • The GM could have a laptop next to them during the session, and use the Adventuring module to take care of attack and critical lookup, resolve maneuvers, spell casting, resistances, foraging, etc. Updates to character hits, power points, active spells, etc would be automatically updated in their smartphones.

To check if that works for you, I'd suggest you first check the Tutorial videos on YouTube.

Also, you don't need to spend a single cent on ERA until you've checked it out. The base product is free and all features are available. The only limitation is that only a couple of races, professions, weapons, spells, etc. are included. You only pay for the content of the different books. Get it here

In your TTRPGs are "re-dos" of a scene/action allowed? If yes how & why is a 2nd chance permitted?
