Fantasy Grounds for RM - still alive?
« on: April 10, 2009, 03:29:08 AM »
Hi,

The last Blog was 2.5 months ago, I think planned release date was Easter.

Any news? Are you still working on it?

It is nearly complete, other then some additional playtesting I think.   I finished up the Creature database last month and have since moved onto other things and things have been quiet.  I'll check in with Stuart!

Hey Mungo - I did answer you, just not too definitive, sorry.  And I didn't come back after checking in with Stuart.   It is not dead.   Currently the graphics are being finalized.   The code is all complete, barring any further playtesting bugs.

It is for RMC - however we have made sure that in terms of mechanics and automation that it would be flexible enough to handle any flavor of RM....since RM is so heavily customized.

So, while the books that are in the ruleset are the RMC books, as are the tables, there's no reason why you couldn't use it quite effectively with RMFRP, or any heavily house ruled RM.

I notice that there is a blurb about Fantasy Grounds for Rolemaster on the front page of the website.  However, there are no details about where or how to purchase the product.

It was debuted at GenCon - it should go up for sale at the Digital Adventures website this week or next.

As Vroomfogle says, it should be available soon. I was told to post the blurb, so I did.  ;D Once I have a definite link to an online store for the item, it will be posted as well.

Will it be possible to make your own attack tables, spell lists, races etc? For example if you want to use the plasma bolt attack table, a spell list from one of the companions or create a character with the dyari race from Shadow World.

Tommy - if you're familiar with the Fantasy Grounds ruleset syntax these things are certainly possible.   The FG website has very good documentation on the ruleset language, which uses XML to describe everything, along with LUA scripts to perform automation and more complicated tasks.   Unfortunately it is not as easy as just entering in some new data through the FG interface though, you have to edit the underlying ruleset files.

The community at the FG forums is a great resource as well.

I am not familiar with Fantasy Grounds and programming is not an option for me. Is it possible to go around this in some way?

I have been gamemastering a Shadow world campaign for 15 years and the players are now level 15-30+. Could we type in the characters and manually adjust race bonuses etc to get the correct numbers for stat bonus and skills, or are we stuck with the generic races? The players have lots of spell lists and weapons from all kinds of RM books. Can they use a spell or weapon not supported by the rule set and the GM manually enters the result in the combat tracker?

Tommy - yes on all accounts.   We made sure that while the ruleset supports all sorts of automated lookup (i.e. races), it is also very flexible.   You actually don't need all the spell lists in there, that's simply for reference.   New skills are very easy to add within the program.   All you really need to do to take advantage of the combat tracker is to properly assign the weapons to the characters, and adjust the bonus so the final OB is the same.   Set the character's hit points, AT, and base DB and you will be pretty much all set to go.

Combat Companion is not in ruleset. That would require a several changes to the underlying ruleset code.    Although it's possible that if the ruleset does very well the CC may be converted to an add-on product.

To answer the original question: Fantasy Grounds is up and running with Rolemaster Classic ruleset. Plus there is a very active community of players and developers (of which some are extending the ruleset and others developing one for RMFRP).

I recommend everyone have a look (especially the Fantasy Grounds forum) because it's vastly improved our online game
