Suggested House Rules for Arrylon
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:21:14 AM »
As I try and get more items finished for the setting (and a large part of whats left to do is atlas entries for the major states), I've been thinking about how I would set up rolemaster characters, and what house rules would affect character creation.  Feedback is welcome here.

First, I suggest using the Rolemaster classic method of stat generation to save time.  Roll 1d100 ten times, then ten more.  The first set are your temporary stats, the second is checked on a potential stat table.  You get to change your pre-requisite stats to 90, so it often helps to put the lowest scores there.  Basically, anyone who plays RM2 or RMC knows fully well how this works.  I think it saves time, too.

In Arrylon, halflings weren't as restricted when it comes to magic.  I don't want to re-write the whole thing yet, so a simple suggestion is to swap their Essence and Mentalism PP development costs.   Something needs to be done about their SD and PR stats as well to improve their spellcasting abilities.  I'll think on it.

Occupational, Everyman, and Restricted skills: Instead of earning multiple ranks per rank bought (a confusing concept to explain), I've come up with a modification to the rank costs.
Occupational Skills get a discount of 2 points per rank.  Thus a skill that has a 3/3/3 DP cost, would, as an occupational skill cost 1/1/1.
Everyman skills get a discount of 1 point per rank.  3/3/3 becomes 2/2/2.
In both cases, you cannot reduce the cost below 1 per rank.
Restricted skills have two changes.  The first change is that you can develop one fewer rank per level than before, with a minimum of one.  So the above 3/3/3 becomes 3/3.  Then the cost increases by 5 per rank, or 8/8 in the example.  4/10 becomes 9, and so on.

These are all just suggestions, no one will lynch anyone if they don't play with these rules or others of their choosing.  This is just how I like to use it in my game.

I'm in Southern Illinois.
No, further than that...
Try South of Mt. Vernon, where Southern Illinois really begins.
