Welcome
To the one hundred-and-eighty-second Briefing and ninth scheduled Briefing of 2026.
Gen Con and Dragonmeet
Another year, another successful Gen Con. Games played and run, books sold, happy fans. We will be back at Gen Con for 2027.
Our attention is now turned to Dragonmeet. Colin has been gathering various supplies for our stand and I will be making an early order of fresh books to top up the inventory. The organisers have noted that the number of traders is up 20% and they have consumed all the space that Excel has to offer, but there will still be the roomy 4m wide aisles, which is a good thing.
Rolemaster
My spies reported that a number of visitors to the Gen Con stand were hoping to catch early copies of RMU Character Companion. Not quite ready to go to print yet, but nearly there. We have made two minor updates to the pdf master. If you find any further residual errors, please let us know asap either on the ICE forums or on the Discord server, as I would like us to have print copies of Character Companion for Dragonmeet.
Software
Bob continues his work on the Foundry software packages. He’s dividing his time between extending support for Treasure Law magic item creation and working on the Character Companion translation. And a couple of other projects as well.
Shadow World
I have completed a high-level editing sweep on the proposed RMU conversion notes for Tales from the Green Gryphon Inn to get a sense of whether it has worked out as I expected, and will be proceeding into a detailed pass.
This has also prompted the creation of a HARP<->RMU conversion document, which is still a work in progress, but will help us with dual-statting adventures, not just for Shadow World. It has highlighted some areas where the two systems have gaps and also areas needing attention for the HARP conversion of Shadow World.
HARP
I have finished the full draft of HARP Something Wicked Something Wondrous.
Pause.
Yes, I really have a complete draft of HARP Something Wicked Something Wondrous.
I surprised myself with how quickly the remaining chapters fell into place. The ongoing creation of the HARP<->RMU conversion prompted me to consider whether there were any remaining Rolemaster spell lists that needed some form of representation in HARP. I found some that I deemed would be helpful so I reopened the spell chapter and swiftly added these in. My suspicion is that there will be further suggestions for additional spells once the manuscript goes for a review pass.
I have sent the complete manuscript off to the first line proofreader and am waiting on one chapter returning from her, before making a set of typo corrections and sending it off for the next review stage.
Until next time
Back to editing for Shadow World and other projects. Please stay safe and keep gaming.
Best wishes, Nicholas
